Viola Chaney, of Chaney Manor: Fighter-1 (> Druid 1, qv) AC 10 or 2/3 (plate & shield) HP 10 STR 9 INT 12 WIS 14 CON 11 DEX 13 CHA 17 Al. NG wpn: longsword (spec) #ATT 3/2 THAC0 19 dam 1d8+2/1d12+2
Viola fled home on horseback with armour and shield to escape her abusive father (he had previously whipped her), but was ambushed by Orcs on the road. They killed her horse and took her captive. She does not wish to return home, and may offer to serve as a henchwoman to a suitable master.
"My family were once Stewards of this land... now we're nothing."

Viola Chaney's eyes widen at this.
"I've heard of Jaroo Ashstaff! A legendary Druid - he used to live in these parts - but that was years ago, long before the War, even. My mother (Lady Lanis) told me many tales of her adventures with Jaroo Ashstaff, Ranger Elmo and the Wizard, Idallus. They once rescued captives from beneath the noses of the man-eating Ogres of the Fallen Halls!"

GM: Viola like her mother is a quiet follower of Druidism, the 'Old Faith' from before the founding of Damara.

As you walk, Viola Chaney approaches Kade the Druid and speaks quietly, so the others don't overhear.
"My mother Lady Lanis was a follower of the Old Faith - my father preferred St Sollars. She told me Jaroo Ashstaff was present at my birth, that he prophesied I would one day be a defender of these lands, like my mother before me. I think now is that time."

1335 DR, 24 years ago, Lanis (Ftr-4), Jaroo (Drd-5), Elmo (Rgr-3) & Idallus (M-U 5) rescued prisoners from the Fallen Halls. Elmo found his magic shield in the Glitterhame. Idallus chose to remain in the lower halls to research the ancient dwarven magics, he was not heard from again.
1336 DR, 23 years ago, Lanis  married Sir Chaney and later bore three sons and a daughter, Viola (in 1339 DR). Jaroo was present at her birth.
1339 DR, 20 years ago, the High Druid of Leth appointed Jaroo as Druid of the Grove in Rawlinswood.
1354 DR, 5 years ago, Lanis was killed in Brandiar fighting the Vaasans.

Narcissa begins expositing, her voice assuming a slightly faraway tone.

"I was born before the war - the big war. My father is Rheligaun the Horned, Nentyarch of Dun-Tharos, the last ruler of the Nar Empire. My mother Lystra was a captive Raumviri princess. I was still young when the war started. It ended when the Raumviri summoned Kossuth, King of Flames, and he burned up Dun-Tharos and half the empire... I survived, but my mother didn't. After that, Narfell was in ruins. Most of the people were dead. My father ruled over ashes.

"We wandered for a time, but eventually we returned to Dun-Tharos, began to rebuild. The forest was already growing over the ruins. Time passed, but my father was growing old. And evil - more evil. I thought when he died, I'd become Nentyarch - I was the oldest of his children to survive the war. I'd make the Nar less ...Evil. But then I discovered he was planning to become a Drune-Lich. We argued, I ran away, he caught me. He didn't want to kill me, so he put me in Stasis. That was, er, 2469 in Mulhorand Calendar?"

Shukura:
"You have slept for over a thousand years!"

GM: Kambyses knows that 2469 MC = 332 in DR/Dale Reckoning, the 'Common Calendar' in western Faerun. Current year is 1359 DR.

Narcissa:
"Swell. He did say I'd sleep for a thousand years, unless he chose to wake me. Guess he didn't..."

She frowns.

"If he's even still around. Any of you heard of a big scary horned Lich ruling in Dun-Tharos?"

GM: The native PCs (Einar & Br. Sorrow) know that the legendary ruined city of Dun-Tharos is said to lie deep in the vast Rawlinswood. Some say it is ruled by an Arch-Druid, but that is only legend. North-western Rawlinswood is nominally part of the Kingdom of Damara. The rest, including Dun-Tharos is claimed by the Kingdom of Impiltur. In truth the barbarian Nar tribes of the great forest acknowledge no ruler except, perhaps, the powerful Druids of Leth.

Rebecca sighs.
"Before I married Sir John Ramvira I was a law-scribe in Heliogabalus, arguing cases before the Court Temporal. Then the Vaasans attacked, and my new husband went to war. Ten years of war. He fell at the Ford of Goliad, along with thousands of others. His friend Lord Calloway, the Baron Greenfields, brought me the news. That was two years ago now."

She shrugs.
"I could still return to Heliogabalus, seek to re-establish my practice there. I suspect there will be much work for lawyers, with King Dimian on the throne. But..."

She looks over at Einar.
"These are my people now. And I swore to protect them."

Rebecca glances to the eastern window.
"As for Blackraven, he seeks to use me to add Ramvira Manor to his own domain. And he is supported by his Baron, Solkar of Grimstead. They are the sorts who survived the War."

Ramvira Tower

Ramvira Manor
The manor mostly comprises small farms and woodsman crofts around the central tower, with two water mills on the river for grain and lumber. Lumber is floated as rafts downriver to Ravensburg. They say he has killed every man he ever fought.
Blackraven is a large fortified hamlet & manor of some 400 souls, ruled by Sir Thomas Blackraven, a powerful knight. Sir Thomas is unmarried; a lustful and ambitious fellow, he is determined to tame the Lady Rebecca of Ramvira Tower, and bring Ramvira Manor into his demesne - and the Duchy of Camarthan. He is known to be supported in this ambition by his immediate liege, the Baron of Grimstead.

A wizard in Valls, Okonios, attempted to summon a spirit of carnality for his pleasure... instead he got a very surprised young paralegal from Hoboken, New Jersey. When he realised she wasn't going to return to the Nether Regions he cast her out on the street, where fortunately she soon fell in with Lucretia Parador (at #17), a highborn wench down on her luck, having been cast out by her father Lucian Parador for bringing shame on the family - she'd been having romantic assignations with a groomsman.
After a chilly week or two on the cold streets of  Valls, and turning a couple tricks, the two wenches were persuaded by Tronak the Trader to seek better fortune at Gurzun's Festhall.

In a former life, Abrogail's mother was a servant to the wealthy Parador family in Valls. When Abrogail was young, the head of the family Lucian Parador raped her mother and cast her out on the streets, where she died a few years later. Now that Lucian's daughter Lucretia is in her clutches, Abrogail is taking great delight in whipping and abusing the wench. She plans to evenually murder Lucretia and have the Master reanimate her as one of the living dead.

Lady Arifia duLac of Ostra
Tania
1.Lady Arifia DuLac of Ostra (NM active female hp 3): A northern Arcata aristocrat, a daughter of Lord Brandis DuLac - Brandis's estate lies at Ostra; travelled to visit her cousin Barbara d'Ashe (nee DuLac) in the south. During the war much of northern Arcata was occupied by the Witch-King, who raised soldiery from the territory. Lord Brandis DuLac shielded his family by permitting this levy and giving tribute, though he never took the field against King Virdin himself, or allowed Vaasan inhuman forces within Ostra's stout stone walls. Consequently the DuLac are not in good favour with some - but Duke William Arcata is himself known as a quisling following the Battle of Goliad, and prefers such men stay in power.

Fulnok:
"DuLac... I know her... at least, I've seen her before, up in Ostrav. Biggest town in northern Arcata. During the War, they surrendered to the Witch King - this was before Goliad. Let Zhengyi raise men, horses, provisions, from their demesne. Some call Lord Brandis DuLac a traitor to Damara... On the other hand, Ostrav stayed unsacked, Brandis was one of the few Damaran nobles to survive the War with neck intact - and Duke William shows no interest in replacing him. Not too stupid, if you ask me."

Shukura:
"It sounds as if he did what he needed to do - to protect his people."
